Sheriff Charles S. Wagner
Charles Wagner was elected Sheriff in a run off election on April
13, 2004 and had no opponent in the November 2004 General Election.
Sheriff Wagner was sworn in on January 1, 2005 by Judge J. Ray Gayle
III while his wife Margaret held the Bible for the oath of office.
Sheriff Wagner was born in Freeport, Texas on August 22, 1946 to
Sidley H. Wagner, Sr. and Vivian Broaddus Wagner. He graduated
from Brazosport High School and attended Wharton Junior College,
Brazosport College, and Texas Lutheran College. He graduated
from the 141st Session of the FBI’s National Academy in
1985 and holds a Master Peace Officer licenses.
Sheriff Wagner began his law enforcement career with the Freeport
Police Department on August 11, 1967 serving as patrol officer,
patrol sergeant, detective sergeant, detective lieutenant and Chief
of Detectives. On July 15, 1985 he became Chief Deputy under
Sheriff Joe King and served in that capacity until taking office as
Sheriff on 01-01-2005.
